Privacy Policy

What we collect

Your account. When you sign up we receive your email address and a display name. Sign-in (email and password, or Google) is handled by Google Firebase Authentication; TAGGO never sees or stores your password. We give your account a public handle (like @moviefan), which you can change.

What you do on TAGGO. To make the site work for you, we store the things you create or choose:

• favorites (♥), your Watch List, and the tags, genres and people you add to “Your tags”;
• tags you add to movies, your optional “why” notes on those tags, and your votes on tags and Tag Battles;
• mixes you save, people you follow, your profile bio, and your notification and privacy settings;
• movies you recommend we add;
• if you joined through a link someone shared, which member shared it (so they can be credited).

How the site is used. TAGGO has its own analytics. Your browser gets a random visitor ID (stored in your browser's local storage, not tied to your name) and we record things like pages viewed, searches, links clicked, the type of device, and the website that referred you. We do not store your IP address in our analytics. Detailed events are deleted after 90 days; we keep only daily totals (for example, “120 people viewed Dark movies today”).

Links to other sites. When you click a link to a streaming service, store or IMDb, we record the click (which movie, which service, and your anonymous visitor ID) before sending you there.

Google Analytics and cookies

We use Google Analytics to understand traffic, such as how many people visit and where they come from. Google Analytics sets cookies and receives information from your browser, including your IP address, under Google's Privacy Policy. You can opt out with Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on or by blocking cookies in your browser. TAGGO itself uses browser storage only to keep you signed in, remember your visitor ID and a few preferences; we don't use advertising cookies.

What's public

Your profile page (at /u/your-handle) is public by default. It shows:

• your display name, handle, bio, tagger level, badges and follower counts;
• your saved mixes, the tags in “Your tags”, and the tags you've added to movies;
• your favorite movies, unless you turn off “Show my favs”.

People who follow you see your new mixes and tags. Tags you add to movies, and vote totals, are shown on movie pages (votes are shown as totals, not by name). Your Watch List is always private, and so are your notes on tags for now; if we later show notes on movie pages, we'll say so on the site first. You can make your whole profile private in Settings.

How we use information

• to run your account and show you your saved movies, tags, mixes and recommendations (“Movies for you”);
• to run community features: votes, points and levels, badges, leaderboards, follows, notifications and referral credit;
• to understand what's popular (Trending tags and mixes) and improve TAGGO;
• to keep the site safe: preventing spam, abuse and misuse;
• to contact you about your account when needed.

We don't sell your personal information, and we don't share it with advertisers.

Who we share it with

We use trusted services to run TAGGO, and they process data for us:

• Google Firebase (sign-in) and Google Analytics (traffic reports);
• Neon (our database) and Cloudflare (hosting and delivery);

Movie information and images come from TMDB, and streaming availability from JustWatch; we don't send them your personal information. Some links to streaming services or stores may be affiliate links, which means TAGGO may earn a commission if you sign up or buy. The service may see that you came from TAGGO, but we don't send them your name or email. We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect TAGGO and its users.

Your choices

• Edit your name, handle and bio, make your profile private, or hide your favs in Settings.
• Remove any favorite, tag, note, vote, mix or follow at any time, or clear your saved activity with “Reset all data”.
• Choose which notifications you get in Settings.
• Delete your account yourself in Settings (“Delete my account”).
• Ask for a copy of your data, or anything else about your privacy, through our contact form (send it while signed in so we know it's your account). We'll respond within 30 days.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under local law. Contact us and we'll help.

How long we keep it

We keep your account information while your account exists. When you delete your account, we delete your profile, saved activity, votes, follows and notifications, and your sign-in. Tags you added to movies may stay on those movies without your name, since other people have voted on them. Detailed analytics events are kept for 90 days; daily totals don't identify you.

Security

Connections to TAGGO are encrypted, sign-in is handled by Firebase, and access to account data requires a verified sign-in. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information.

Children

TAGGO isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you think a child under 13 has created an account, let us know and we'll delete it.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change is significant, like showing something publicly that is private today, we'll tell you on the site before it takes effect.
